The historical origin of Con Phung
In the past, when Con Phung tourism was not famous, the locals called it Tan Vinh islet. Then there was a time after that people here called another name Dao Dua island. Basically because at that time there was a person named Nguyen Thanh Nam (born in 1909, died in 1990). Mr. Nam came here to build Nam Quoc Phat Temple and founded a sect called Dao Dua in the early 20th century. During the construction of Nam Quoc Phat temple, builders discovered an ancient cup shaped like a phoenix. From then on, the name Con Phung appeared and became famous until now.
In the early 1930s, Con Phung had just over 28 hectares of land. At that time it was just a small island in the middle of the My Tho river. But due to the law of natural accretion, Con Phung is cultivated by a large amount of alluvium every year. Up to this point, the area here is no longer 28 hectares but has doubled to 50 hectares.
