Vinh Hung ancient tower is seen by tourists as a mysterious thousand-year old tower. This can be said to be a very own and unique tourist destination famous for Western tourism.
Vinh Hung ancient tower has the most unique artistic architecture in Bac Lieu Province. It has its own special cultural values, and has been confirmed through many excavations and surveys. In 1992, Vinh Hung ancient tower was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism as a national architectural and artistic relic.
Vinh Hung ancient tower has a rectangular shape, and has been preserved and restored quite a lot. The main hall is the Linga Yoni which represents the harmony of yin and yang, the original is currently being preserved. The outside of the tower has been covered with moss and peeling because it is more than a thousand years old. The tower is lined with red bricks, from a height of 4.15 m or more, gray-white bricks, larger in size, lighter than the bricks below. This heritage has its roots in Buddhism. There are many stone relics around the tower.
History of Vinh Hung ancient tower
Vinh Hung ancient tower was built in the 9th century. Archaeologists have discovered a lot of artifacts buried underground around the tower. Currently the top of the tower has collapsed, but the tower is still over 8 meters high, with a rectangular shape. The time of the Republic of Vietnam was ranked 14th in the list of long-standing historical relics of Cochinchina. In the period from 1911 to 1959, the French discovered many mascots worshiping here. The stele found in the pagoda next to the tower is engraved with ancient Sanskrit characters. The text is recorded in the month of Karhila in 814, which is AD 892. The person inscribed on the stele was the king of that time named Yacovan Man.
Architectural style of Vinh Hung ancient tower
Vinh Hung ancient tower is extremely simple with the design of layers of walls surrounding the tower. The roof of the tower is made into an arch with a door facing the west. The tower is designed with the height of the tower more than 8m, minus the part of the top that has been damaged. The two sides of the foot of the tower are 5.6m wide and 6.9m wide.
